JONATHAN SOLOMON

Jonathan Solomon is the senior partner of Solomon & Co., which was founded in Mumbai by his grandfather in 1909 and now has over 100 practicing lawyers. He was enrolled as an Advocate in 1963 and as a Solicitor in the Bombay High Court in 1967. He has been in active practice for the past 55 years. His specialization is real estate, civil litigation, arbitration, trusts and partnerships and he has also been recommended as ‘first-class’ in insurance matters. Mr. Solomon regularly appears before the High Court of Bombay and the Supreme Court of India and receives an appointment by the Bombay High Court as Court Receiver and Administrator in disputes. He is a trustee of several educational trusts and organizations. His wealth of legal knowledge, decades of experience and passion for social causes makes him a trusted advisor to many.

AARON SOLOMON

MANAGING PARTNER

Aaron Solomon is the Managing Partner of Solomon & Co. and has been in active practice for more than 25 years. He specializes in transactional work including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, exchange control regulations, competition laws, banking, investment funds, private equity, capital markets, and securities laws. He has a hands-on approach, and his team has the ability to handle large and complex cross-border transactions. With over 2.5 decades of experience on cross-border transactions of all types and versatility across multiple practice areas, Aaron specializes in guiding clients across a complex Indian business and legal environment.

Aaron was a partner at two major Indian law firms before joining Solomon & Co. He qualified as an advocate in the year 1995 and was ranked first in all India Solicitor’s examination in 1996.

• In 2016, Aaron acted for Jain Irrigation on the largest private equity investment in India’s Agri-tech sector, a nearly 120 million US$ investment by Mandala Capital in Jain Irrigation.
• He also acted for Fonroche Energie S.A.S. in 2016 on one of the first M&A transactions in the solar energy space in India, namely the divestiture of two solar power Plants by Fonroche Energie S.A.S. to the Hinduja Group.
• He is an empanelled advisor to several banks and Financial services companies, including HSBC Bank, L&T Finance, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra.

KOMAL SOLOMON

Komal Solomon is a Partner at Solomon & Co. and has been in practice for over 25 years’. Komal graduated from Jai Hind College and thereafter read law at the Government Law College in Mumbai. She specializes in matters relating to corporate and regulatory compliance, regulatory communications, immigration laws, entertainment, media law, India entry strategies and intellectual property law.

She has assisted several multinationals in establishing their subsidiaries, branch offices and liaison offices in India.

Michelle is a dual-qualified Advocate and Solicitor in India and England & Wales, based primarily in Paris and sharing her time between France and India. She advises European and international companies on business interests in India, including investments, joint ventures, workforce, contracts, shareholder relations, compliance, and dispute resolution.

She has advised across diverse sectors such as construction, steel, packaging, medical diagnostics, insurance, shipping, cyber security, marinas, and garment manufacturing. Michelle studied law at Government Law College, Mumbai and the University of London (SOAS), completed the Legal Practice Course in London, and trained with Clifford Chance in London and Paris before joining Solomon & Co. in 2012. She is fluent in English, French, and Hindi.

KINJAL CHAMPANERIA

Kinjal Champaneria has over 15 years of experience and focuses on corporate transactional work, including mergers & acquisitions, India entry, joint ventures, private equity, foreign investment, exchange control regulations, and general corporate matters.

He represents both investors and target companies across diverse sectors, with extensive expertise in structuring cross-border and domestic transactions, and in regulatory compliance with authorities such as RBI, SEBI, and relevant Ministries under FDI policy.

Kinjal also advises on structuring and establishing onshore and offshore funds, preparing placement memorandums, contribution agreements, conducting due diligence, and drafting and negotiating transactional documents. His practice further includes commercial contracts such as franchise, distribution, and technology agreements, as well as advisory on infrastructure projects under the Smart City Mission, including EPC, concession, and procurement agreements.

GERMAINE PEREIRA

Germaine Pereira is a Partner at Solomon & Co. She is registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and holds a Master’s Degree in Science with a specialization in Biotechnology.

She has an experience of over 15 years. Prior to joining Solomon & Co. in 2007, Germaine worked as an intellectual property consultant at the Industrial Research and Consultancy Centre, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB).

She has substantial transactional experience in equity and debt financing, conveyancing, labour and employment laws, India entry, law of inheritance and succession and intellectual property matters. Germaine has represented clients ranging from entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 500 companies across diverse industries, high net worth individuals, artist and writers on their legal assignments.

SHRUTI MANIAR

PARTNER

Shruti Maniar is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team of Solomon & Co. and co-leads the firm’s litigation practice. She has been with Solomon & Co. since 2008. She is registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa since 2005. She holds a degree in the stream of Arts (with a double major in Political Science and History). She passed Law majoring in Banking and Intellectual Property Services.

She specializes in litigation (both civil and criminal) and has experience in a wide array of matters including Suits, Testamentary Proceedings, Writ Petitions, Intellectual Property proceedings, Commercial Litigation and Consumer Court Proceedings. Shruti appears regularly before the Bombay High Court, Debt Recovery Tribunal and RERA.

Shruti also has wide experience in Arbitration Proceedings (including international arbitration) and appears regularly before various arbitration tribunals. Shruti has advised various Banks and NBFCs in the proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 and regularly appears before the National Company Law Tribunal.

SONIYA PUTTA

Soniya Putta is a Partner at Solomon & Co. She is registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. Soniya works in the Dispute Resolution team and is experienced with litigating in Indian courts and tribunals. She is actively involved in both civil and criminal litigation as well as arbitration. She regularly appears as an advocate before various courts and tribunals including the Bombay High Court, Debt Recovery Tribunals and Arbitral Tribunals. She also has experience in drafting of wills, applying for probate, letters of administration, and is well-versed with inheritance and succession laws.

SAUMYA BRAJMOHAN

Saumya is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution team of Solomon & Co. She is registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa since 2014. Saumya holds a degree in law from ILS Law College, Pune University wherein she secured 4th Rank in the University of Pune (III BSL, LL.B).

She specializes in arbitration, civil, commercial and insolvency litigation. She regularly appears before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, City Civil Court as well as various Tribunals including National Company Law Tribunal, RERA, Debt Recovery Tribunals, Arbitral Tribunals and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal. She is also involved in various matters before various Tribunals and Courts outside Mumbai and India.

She is currently involved in a wide array of litigation matters including matters of the writ, commercial suits and arbitrations, testamentary and partition matters, consumer matters, civil suits, company law matters, and insolvency proceedings and has also advised various international clients on the same.
